Goodbye Monsieur Galet

It is with deep sadness that we learn of the death of Professor Pierre Galet. We had the honor of meeting him on several occasions for the film in which he humorously tells the story of forbidden grape varieties.

Pierre Galet is the author of many of the world's leading works on ampelography. Indeed, long before DNA analysis, in the 1950s he established himself as an expert in the science of grape variety identification and description. Through his research, Pierre Galet catalogued some 10,000 grape varieties in France and around the world, including over 100 belonging to the Pinot family. He taught at the University of Montpellier, notably for the national oenology diploma, until 2012. Pierre Galet would be 99 in a few days and was still working on his next publications.

Audiences at the film's preview at Montpellier's Diagonal cinema on June 30 will remember his energetic, passionate speech, a reflection of his character.
